Ann Patchett has loads of fans and I'm one of them. Although I like all her books I think this is the best in a while. It's the story of Danny and Maeve, siblings who grew up in The Dutch House (so called because it was built by a very wealthy Dutch family and is somewhat over the top), but whose mother disappeared, and whose father changed their lives forever when he introduced Andrea to the household. What they then lost and it was everything is something they were never able to adequately deal with, until they're eventually forced to re-evaluate and given the chance to put it all behind them once and for all. This is about families, setbacks and redemption - Joan.
