This title is a Joan's Pick.
I loved, loved this book - a brilliant thriller, set largely in North Korea. There are three different narrative strands - all of which give insight into what life must be like there, (and as confirmed by Google!) in a terrific story which had me hooked from the start. There's the teenage couple abducted from a beach, and the search by the young woman's twin sister to find her; there's Mrs Moon, who lives in a penal colony and trades on the black market to survive; and there's the high ranking government official whose personal history may jeopardise his status. These threads intertwine in a story which I couldn't put down, against a landscape which is as foreign to us as it is utterly fascinating.
Highly, highly recommended. Do yourself a favour and read it! Joan.- Format: Paperback / softback
