The Dreyfus Affair is widely believed to be one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in history. In 1894, Dreyfus, a Jew, was accused of treason and sent to a lifetime of solitary incarceration. For his part in the affair, Captain Picquart was rewarded with promotion - but became convinced that Dreyfus was innocent, and someone else responsible. Having caught their man, though, in a blaze of publicity and self congratulation, the state and the military both refused to believe that he was not guilty as charged and it took 12 years before Dreyfus was exonerated.
I didn't think this would be my sort of thing and was slow to pick it up - but was wrong, I loved it! Gripping storytelling. Joan.- Format: Paperback / softback
